Thank you, Grandma Mary

08-26-09 GRANDMA, THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING

I lost a good friend tonight. She was eighty-nine and is still as dear to me as Kaitlynn, her 20-year-old great grand daughter. We have lived across the street from each other for well over 10 years.

Grandma Mary’s eyes are still sparkling blue and she still shows her angel's smile. She is still so soft, so innocent, so loving and complete. She is a true God’s child.

I am so sad. I watched as the paramedics tried to revive her in the ambulance in front of my house. It was horrible to watch through the glass windows of the ambulance. The bright lights within exposed a heroic and horrific display of trying to fend off the inevitable. They spent every ounce of energy trying to save her for over fifteen minutes. Then it was over. The ambulance was in no rush to get to the hospital.

God had come and she said yes…although the rest of us say, No, No No.

I grew up living across the street from this wonderful family who adopted me, fed me, checked on me when I was sick. Now I am sick for them. Please pray for Grandma Mary, Rick, Amy and Kaitlynn and me.

And the countless others blessed by knowing her, hugging her, feeling the love from her are in a state of disbelief. I thought I would go before her and probably deserve to.

One day a few months back, I got a little puppy, a Dachshund of course. I rescued him from a puppy mill. He had been trapped in the Mall for over five weeks. They sold him to me for half price.

Needless to say, he wasn’t quite right. He could hardly stand to be touched. He was a squirmy little bugger…until I placed him in Grandma’s bosom. He calmed right down. It was his first day home. He’s been just fine ever since.

God, thank you for your Grace, please relieve the suffering of those left behind...

Grandma, thank you for your loving touch, your heart portrayed with your soul.

You blue, blue eyes, beautiful face, you will be with us in all that you’ve touched.

You, never complained when I kissed your cheek along with my drunken hugs.
You understood, you loved me too, just like one of my pups.

I will not have to remember you, as you are with us still,
watching over us with that soft, soft grin, as you perform God’s will.
