Her eyelids drop,
Heavy, tempting sleep,
The silence of the night,
Inviting dreams.
But she won't let sleep come,
For though she wishes for dreams,
Sweet hope to make her heart sing,
She fears for nightmares,
Ones that will break her heart.
Butterflies in her stomach,
Head light headed,
Her tongue twisted,
Forever waiting.
Six months it's been,
Since he left her with that goodbye,
A kiss and a promise,
That he'd always love her,
And make a decision.
For years she'd waited,
Patiently, in the background,
For her moment to shine,
Where she'd be the ones in his arms.
Forever is such a long time,
Looking at her watch,
It's past the middle of the night,
What good is she to talk,
If she's half asleep?
Deep down,
She knows the answer,
But still, that dream,
That hope, lingers.
She needs to hear him say it,
Say the words she never wanted him to say,
But knew she had to hear,
So she wouldn't wait any more,
So she could move on.
'I'm staying with her.....'
