A Simple Celebration

What could I send to a good friend,
to celebrate this day?
It should transcend the current trend
to break and fade away.

To catch a star? They are too far,
and far from mine to give!
A booze filled bar? A racy car?
Don’t mix! You love to live.

To fly across, lights out your boss?
I’m really not that kind!
Still at a loss, a coin I toss,
Queen’s head or rear defined!

A yacht? A plane? An old steam train?
I know you won’t refuse.
Oh! my poor brain can’t take the strain,
I wonder which to choose!

But I’ve been taught friends can’t be bought,
they give themselves for free.
So I have sought with lots of thought,
the perfect gift from me.

I know which gift provides uplift,
So I’m feeling rather smug.
Now I must shift and post it swift
to send my simple hug.

of course, there can't be anything more than writes such as these that make a person happy and proud when written for him, I like the booze/car mixing bit and the "you love to live" bit, a very wise idea of putting that in the wirte. But as you say, nothing makes a person more hppy than mere thoughts, a hug or a simple wish. I love the thoughts in this and the pretty rhyme, very effortlessly done.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY EARL!!!

    HAVE A BLAST!

Love and light and the best of wishes

THIS ONE IS AS GOOD AS GOLD TO ME!

Thanks, Sue - for submitting to this contest and making me Birthday Bash a VERY FINE ONE to say the least! I love the sentiments and the flow, rhyme, and meter of this piece - as I have been called THE KING OF RHYME by many a lovely lady and handsome fellow in the past - and with this piece it is plain to see that when it comes to rhyming and recording the songs of your gentle heart and soul - no matter how long that it may take you to do so - that you are THE QUEEN OF RHYME in me book - any old day of the week - sorta speak. It seems that I have saved the best piece (in my opinion, anyway) to read on this sunny and blue skied day a-sitting in me yard after me morning walk to THE COFFEE SHOP for my usual breakfast fare there when I am taking a vacation day from work - which is HIGE PRAISE, indeed - as the quality of all of ten pieces here - is spot on - and all worthy of trophies if only it could be. I've TRULY enjoyed them all - each in there own way - today and must THANK me BESTES MATE - ONESUGAR (aka) SLOW POKE for making my Birthday the best one that I have had - up until now. Don't forget to stop by me BIRTHDAY BASH when you get home from work - and remember you can leave your clothing at the door!
    Peace & Love!
    Earl.

    A Lovely Birthday poem
Your poem sends a message that is the profound truth
I think holidays are ruined because of the "gift" thing and Commercialism
    Friendship is all about love
and some s makes a splendid gift

Wish you the very best in the contest
Much love and many blessings my friend

Twin stars are caught in your eyes sought
    and found as halo bright,
while heart and thought unite, hold fort
    sunshine by day and night
