A Child's Tell

After the death of Blood Eye Judith became even more abusive giving the young boy the first of many scars on above his left eye hidden by bangs in later life. Four years Maytreeara suffered the abuse of his mother and then she died a heart attack in the middle of night leaving Maytreeara homeless over the four years he had made a friend a young boy who went by Ghost Maytreeara didn't care about not knowing his friends real name Ghost was blind and Maytreeara took care of the year younger boy, but once Maytreeara became homeless their roles flipped Ghost being the one who took care of Maytreeara even though he was blind it didn't seem to affect his ability to sneak around town and get food.

It was a cool day Maytreeara had been homeless for a year being nine years old he now knew the town like the back on his hand he could steal with the best of them and was the master of slight of hand it was a hard, cruel life, but he found it better than living under his mothers furious rule and taking her abuse. Press gangs were a thing he often had to worry about, but none of them seemed interested in a string thin nine year old boy and a white haired blind boy Maytreeara was at the dock pirate ships had just docked and he was picking the pockets of the just paid crew members he lived in Henda a well known pirate city they sold wares and came to dock in Henda often because it was an outreach post where the marines rarely visited to check on pirate activity which would explain why they had only known about Maytreeara for about three years, but still hadn't gone to execute the young boy. There were many burly scary men about the docks unloading and loading ships no one noticed Maytreeara who crept trough the crowds picking busy crew members pockets he felt eyes on the back of his head, but he got this feeling often ever sense reading the last words his father had left him he always thought the feeling was the God of the Sea, but today it wasn't some imagined god it was a pirate who had noticed Maytreeara and had been watching him steal for the others for about ten minutes when Maytreeara decided to look behind him the man standing over him was a thin black haired man who had piercing lime green eyes they seemed to see his very soul he shivered

"May I help you sir?" Maytreeara stuck his hand deep into the tattered pockets of his dirty winter coat there was a chill to the air being on the dock seemed to make that chill worse the spray of the sea hitting people covering them with stinging salt water making the chill in the air worse.

"You seem to be an interesting lad whats your name?" Maytreeara thinking this man was a press gang member shook his head showing he wasn't going to tell he walked backward keeping and eye on the chilling man, but ran into yet another man this man also had black hair with red streaks his eyes were kinder, but still just as chilling they were yellow like a cats and seemed to see every detail of what was going on around them

"What do we have here eh Bane?" The man patted Maytreeara's head trying to calm the young boy this man leaned against a pole that held a lantern to light the dock on dark nights he light a cigerate the smoke curled up into the air vanishing in the randomly changing breezes that sometimes came from the sea and sometimes came from the land.

"I've been watching this boy for awhile he's quite the good little pick-pocket. Odd thing is I know this boy." Bane leaned over to Maytreeara to whisper in his ear. "Your father is old Blood Eye right?" Maytreeara nodded in a stunned silence the other man didn't even try to listen to what had been said. "What do you say about going out to sea?" Bane's level eyes told him that this man was being honest he was offering him a place on his ship.

"I would love that sir." His voice was soft he looked up so Bane could see his eyes for the first time they were just like his fathers stormy blue-gray very dangerous, but kind his also had a child innocence to them.

So the fulfillment of his promise started as a ship-boy on The Legend Time Bane's ship.
His story truly began and his own journey to leave his footsteps in the history of piracy began with two men Bane and the hawk-eyed smoker.
