Brother Bear

He was lost in a world of jealous envy
with no clear picture of the man
that he could be. Lost in a world where
black and white equalled all that was
wrong and all that was right. No areas of
gray, no allowance for mistakes, Kenai
took what he could, living life without brakes.

Until came the day where he made a choice,
one that lost him his brother and put
hatred in his voice. For the bears of the
wilderness that roamed through their lands,
and to whom he promised vengence delivered
by his own hands.

Until Sidka intervened with the spirits of the
past, and turned Kenai to bear form, to learn
a lesson that could last. He learnt to look
deep inside to see who others really are, and
not judge every action as a permanent scar.

By befriending young Koda, and offering him
a paw, Kenai began to see that things
weren't always what he saw. That sometimes,
in this life, we need to dig a little more to
find out what treasures lie behind a closed door.

With laughter and teasing, the duo soon grew
close, and Kenai discovered what matters in
this life the most. Friendship and love;
holding your family in your care - and he
found all this out whilst in the form of a bear.

So when the end drew near, and a battle
was due, Kenai stood up as the man he'd
turned into - and with the wisdom
of life that he'd learned on the way,
accepted who he was, and how he would
stay.

A heartwarming tale, for both young and
old in the captivating way his story is told.
For all of us search to find out who we
are, in books, in horoscopes, in a wish on
a star. To take your own courage and
allow it to run is admirable and brave,
a battle to be won. I came away from
watching, feeling a little more free
to have the strength to explore and
find out "who is me."

Author notes

Brother Bear is by far and away my top Disney movie - I found it very inspiring. And Kenai is certainly one of my favourite characters ever written.

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!

This was simply enchanting. I love the whole story. I have never seen that movie but after reading this, I think I might have to take a peek at it. The moral and story within this piece was very good indeed. To judge someone without ever knowing nor understanding is something that will always drag one down. So many hidden beauties and joys lie deep within and all one has to do is look, as your wonderful write pointed out. I think there is a lot of this judging going on, but I think that is outwayed by all the good people who take the time to see and understand those around them. A delightful and most inspiring piece, so well written and presented to us. Thank you so much for the read.

Awesome write. I NEVER saw the movie....

I should go check it out. Disney movies still rock, and I am 21. Mulan is by far my fave in that area, though.

Awesome work here. Thanks so much for entering my contest. Good luck to you!

      Heroesrox,

thank you; you should definitely check this one out, it's very like the old style of Disney movies in its moralistic meaning, and even the way the artistic expertise shines through - but is so enjoyable, and has all the classic Disney laugh & cry moments!

I'm 23, and still love my Disney!
