Those "Parents"

Once again, you walk in, and we have to tear them from your arms.
Once again, you leave, not feeling you've done any harm.
Many months have passed, since you had felt the need to see them,
but your court date is coming up, so you pretend you need them.
A couple of visits you've decided to show up to.
They equal much more pain for them than you could go through.
Who are you? Their mother? That is a badge meant to be worn with pride!
How the hell can you use it when you like, then toss it to the side?
These babies love you unconditionally, but you don't deserve it.
What you DO deserve would amount to a pile of shit!
Are you angry now? You have no right to be, but, With you, I'm done.
There is another "mother" who doesn't deserve her son.
I see the way he looks at her everyday as she arrives.
A look of endless admiration, even through blackened eyes.
Not a day passes that I don't tell him it's okay,
but she makes me out to be a liar, every time she causes him pain.
Many times, I have bathed him and washed his clothes,
but none of that would matter, just to see her hold him close.
All would be forgiven, if she would just take awhile
and give him the chance to see one loving smile.
Instead, it's one bruise, then another. How much do you think he can take?
I would give me last breath to know she wouldn't cause him to break.
Look at me now, angering people by speaking my mind.
There is a simple answer: Learn to be kind.
Realize your child is precious, and be thankful each day.
Hug them, love them, and kiss their pains away.
Don't take for granted the gifts you've been given.
And fight with your last breath, to earn being forgiven.
