"Here Comes the Rain Again"

Prologue:

I am there
due to the immediacy of TV,
where all at the wake were as one,
where Orrin Hatch can make this Democrat laugh
and cry with tales most Kennedy-esque.

I share
in the wonder of all together
leaders past and present,
political views softened
in lieu of friendship.

HUGE BLACK UMBRELLA PARADE

History
alive
and under the flag

Hierarchy
in rows
of dignitaries

Honor
merges
the aisles

Humor
hides sadness
in the anecdotal

Humility
sustains
family pride

Heredity
crowns
dedication

Horizon
crossed
on the way to heaven

Epilogue:

I hope
for the oneness to continue
to further the passage of the bill bearing his name
and realization of all the intercessions invoked
by the young of his clan.

Ted Kennedy's name equals dedication,
looking out for the less fortunate,
and sponsoring and getting passed
legislation for "the people."
May his memory forever roar.

      I sympathize with you
      for your knowledge of
      this dread disease.

And there he was to the end,
pleading to have his seat filled
quickly so his voice could stll
be heard. But can't be too happy
now with what is going on with the bill.

      Thank you, Melee,

It came to be from the passion of the moment,
the rain, all the big umbrellas, the coming together...

Ah, yes, the Kennedys were known for their speaking abilities.
The solemnity of the moment was moving.

At the time you were still looking for more entries, so I thought it fitting.

whatever your political views, there are certain moments where our elected officials provide an inkling of the statesmen like qualities i suspect most envisioned in themselves when initially entering the field. bravo for those moments and the renewed hope they bring to those whose interests they swore to represent.

a nice thought provoking piece this is.

    nicely done.

He valiantly upheld the Kennedy tradition
of fighting for the rights of those who
      somehow have less than others,
for those who need their voices heard.

Obama read from the letter in his address last night
that Ted Kennedy had sent to be read after his death,
still wantin g his voice heard on his health care bill.
      Very poignant moment.

      Thank you for sharing thoughts!

      One of three Kennedy brothers,
      the oldest, John F. Kennedy
      elected president of the USA,
      assisainated in 1963 while riding
in Dallas, Texas in an open car.
The next brother, Robert F. Kennedy,
      at one time Attorney general,
      assasinated while campaigning
in his quest to be the next president.
Edward (Teddy) Kenendy lived a long
life, very succesful as a US. Senator,
      always working for the people,
      particularly those who had less,
who needed help. But by choosing
the public life had to be in fear
of meeting the same fate as his
brothers. He died after a year long
      fight with brain cancer.

      So that's the story, Massy.

Very uplifting. I like these word:
Humor, hides sadness, in the anecdotal
    Humility, sustains, family pride

I do hope people can see his underlying goal of helping people. I would like to see compromise on both sides of congress. There is more than one way to get the job done. Although, liberal minded myself, I think being pragmatic is the only way to get things done and make them work.

May his memory be honored for his constant attention
to the cause, for persistence that has benefitted so
      many citizens.

What the new White House of hope and change
is taking so long to understand is that the word
compromise in the Republican's handbook is
defined as blocking every effort, saying no,
making up untruths to shout out.

Meanwhile, premiums have risen so high that
businesses cant afford to cover, whie families have
to choose between necesssities and paying
      exorvitant premiums for high deductibles.

Greed has been the staus quo for so long,
hard to break the corporate hold.

      Better stop venting!!

Thank you for sharing thoughts, Bonita.

So you were watching TV about Ted Kennedy or something as it was raining? Or is this about him? Just thoughts as I watched all the big, black umbrellas
as if walking on their own, ushering everyone into the funeral.
At the wake the night before, so many shared stories,
friends from both side of the aisle as partisan Orrin!
but the words spilled out as I watched the funeral coverage,
hitting submit just as Obama finished his eulogy.

The rain in Boston seemed fitting.

Yes, will stop in when I see the next installment!

I wrote what I was feeling at the moment,
as so many emotions were flooding in.
The sight of all those umbrellas,
giving a sense of privacy, as did
the darkness that fell as the funeral
      ceremony moved into the night----
      struck me particularly.

Kudos that you took note to draw others in
by hosting a contest. I, too, had looked,
but since I have never hosted a contest--
I so do not want to judge and select
one piece from the heart over another---
I am appreciative of your efforts, Denise.

      one of major losses.

Ahhh lovely work here MC, i think you have captured something remarkable...

Yes, it is the gesture that creates a lasting memory the contenders putting aside things to honor someone, but really he had that effect on people during his tenure too. He turned many debates around..i remember one day he took off on a minimum wage bill...all those millionaires voting against $5.00 an hour...on he went about what it meant to have as much and as little as $5 bucks... in the Senate we had subsidized lunches, everything cheaper than the outside world, parked for free; got to go to so many places where the fed you...for free; working people don't have those things $5.00 barely covered cigarettes and a beer, school kids paid more for lunch than in the Senate dining rooms. Red faced men changed their votes. He was a leader in an elite leaders club, a real leader i think...PK

      That was a moment---repeated, red-faced, pounding
the podium so many times. His accomplishments read
like a "love your fellow countryman" list.

Now if his spirit could only give health care a push,
and not let the bill under his name be watered down
till it's meaningless, just a gesture.

Thanks for adding to the conversation, PK.

Well you know it won't last. I'm sure Fox news and Rush and umm, the boy you raised are busy right now hacking away at the health care bill.

Orin Hatch always makes me laugh. Oh wait, you meant something different there.

Poor Ted, but it was nice to see that people cared even if their speeches were a bit on the hyperbolic side.

Like Pix, I'm amazed how people come together at these kinds of events, but unlike Pix, my eye is caustic and focused on the hypocrisy.

She is right, it is wonderful. And you are definitely a better person than most of us, me certainly!

But it is nice to see people "getting along"---
and to hear tales of all the reaching out
the senator did, from encouraging Joe Biden
to still take the oath, at young 29, despite
the tragedy he had just endured, to being the
first to reach out to the other side of the aisle
      in repeated circumstances.

The stories ranged from touching to hilarious
and could have gone on and pn and on.....

An especially poignant title for this piece considering the storms this family has faced in addition to the the fact it was raining in Boston today. Ted Jr.'s words had me in tears.

I'm always amazed how people come together at these times, putting aside differences, political and/or otherwise, and wear their humanity in a unity of spirit. It should be like that all the time...we're all in this together.

This is a wonderous piece Aes

Re the title---I had looked at Paloszoos
list of nearly 2,000 song titles numerous
      times, remembering this morning
the rain in a title---just had to be.

      No Tim Russert rainbow, though,
      appeared on the screen.

It was meant to be created from the rain.

No Russert rainbow but the sun set allowing a moment of privacy. Equally as noteworthy in my book.

not a Maxwell Smart "Cone of Silence"--but an updated

To live life so publically is such a sacrafice. Bad enough years ago when still some privacy and/or protection was afforded. Now there is nowhere to hide and nothing is off limits for those in the public eye...Hollywood celebrity or otherwise. The high price of fame.
