That’s cool, that’s life
Having fun in work and strife,
Smiling through sweat and tears—
Just enjoying the best years
Of our lives.
Going in, swinging blind,
Making friends and changing lives.
Homework and hanging out,
Learning what it’s all about.
Hugging, crying, holding hands,
Making do with life’s demands,
Getting hurt and pulling through
Because it’s what you’ve got to do.
Cutting class and cramming tests,
Putting up with FYS,
Writing papers the night before,
Laughing ‘til your abs are sore.
Random ventures and road trips,
Taking more than a couple sips,
Late night runs to Taco Bell,
Pulling pranks and raising hell.
Glancing back at where you’ve been,
Embracing a little sin;
Looking ahead and making plans,
Leaving your mark, taking a stand.
Knowing when the day is done,
You’ve done some good and had some fun;
Knowing when you go to bed,
More adventures lie ahead.
Attempting, failing, falling hard;
Standing, fighting—no holds barred.
Winning after striving strong—
They’ve been with you all along.
More than friends, not quite kin,
Closer than you’ve ever been.
Trusting, loving, looking past
Mistakes, heartaches—faith steadfast.
Seeing perfection amid disaster,
Living slowly as life moves faster,
Conversations without words,
Arguments—not crossing swords.
Understanding what can’t be seen—
Who you are and what you mean;
I see what your face betrays—
Regardless of the things you say.
Second guessing your next thought,
I know exactly what you want;
Eye meets eye, I know your mood—
Sometimes you’re not when you say, “I’m good.”
It’s hard to remember or even imagine
How life was or how it would be
Before I knew the likes of any of you
Or had none of you ever met me.
A break from life’s monotony—
