Mirror; Mirror.....

The alluring smile
staring back at me,
so hard to resist

and I know it...

Those deep blue eyes
gazing back,
have the ability to capture
all my needs, and more

and I expect it...

Blessed am I
for the image before me;
unthinkable to resist,
no reason to

and I am enamored by it...

Yet now as I lie
in the darkness of my fears,
reality creeps in
to the essence of my soul,
reminding me
of who I have become,
and how I have achieved
this level of insolvency.

The image seen
within the reflection of the mirror
can mask a degree of deception
hidden from view,
waiting for its moment
to make an appearance.

I have suceeded in this masquerade
for longer than I know.
I do not recognize the face in the mirror
and it does not know me as well.

Concealed behind the alluring smile
exists a faceless frown,
who has lost the ability
to distinguish the difference
between what is

and what needs to be...

Those deep blue eyes have seen only
what they desire to see,
everything else was removed
and laid to rest

never to recover ...

The beatified image before me
shall continue to erase
what it desires to
for the benefit of my self adoration;
with no consideration
of another preference,
and I will allow it

embellish it...

gladly...

Deep perspective on oneself! A reflection in a mirror that does not recognize even the image it see's anymore! Impressive write!

    Keep penning ~

    A reminder to notice

"Who has lost the ability to distinguish the difference between what is and what needs to be..." sounds like the description of so many souls today, mine included. Moments like these could go unnoticed and progress into a fully deluded state of mind, about self, and about everything. This poem reminds that by taking time to notice the descent, we may prevent the fall.

I love the deep perceptions incorporated in your writes, this is really exquisite.I wish there was a mirror of the soul that would reveal our true selves not this silver sheet of mica that captures our outward selves for us to indulge in Narcisstic delight. This was much loved, thanks for sharing, take care...

    .goodness!

I am not sure if this is your own personal feelings or not. If it is about you, you have managed to strip bare to the knuckles with this one...not an easy thing to do. very nicely written and I found it to be very intriguing!

The most important and longest lasting thing we can do for our loved ones is to be true to ourselves, and to allow them the same. How else will we learn from each other? How else may we evolve? Good one, Poet.

I Liked this. It is crazy how we can fool ourselves to be something we are not, and follow that thought through many years. I myself have written (not posted) something similar. In mine though - truth is seen in the eyes of the reflection. The truth seems brighter than the charade reflection.
I get the sense of a whole different feeling from your point of view. It's good to get a different view.

I enjoyed the last stanza particulaly - and the way you ended it. Well done!

Strong and meaningful! I do believe we all have changed through time and often not in a way we wished to...leaving us to hide our true selves behind the fake reflection left for the world to see...it is often hard to admit that we have become someone we do not like or want to be...
You did a wonderful job in imagery and amazing depth to leave one pondering...

    Lovely work, dear poet.

At times we get what need and not what we want, there are times when people will put aside all that matters deeply in order to survive in this world that includes the plasticness of outward appearence.

It is difficult to reach into ones inner being and plead the 5th and with this poem you have done a great job of describing what it is the reflection would say if it had a voice.

I like it, I like it so!

    The image in the mirror

is but a reflection of the man. The man in the room, is but an essence of the reflection. You paint the picture well of a person who likes the outward image of what they see in the mirror, but dislikes very much what the mirror sees in return. It is like they both have the gift of life, but alas, the one in the mirror is not living, other than through the conscience of the speaker. Well done. There are some excellent lines throughout this poem, but the one that nails it for me is:

    Concealed behind the alluring smile
    exists a faceless frown,
    who has lost the ability
    to distinguish the difference
    between what is

    and what needs to be...

It's really The Portrait of Dorian Gray mirrored in hazy glass. The tale of a youth whose features, year after year, retain the same appearance of innocent beauty while the shame of his abhorrent vices becomes mirrored on a face that morphs into and out of reality. Well done dear poet! -c

Wow...This touches on the unknown face we may have been attached to...a faceless imagination

"I do not know the face in the mirror
and it does not know me as well"

This world what we see in the mirror and what we hope to see out there, can be deception, but we must dream and hope and find satisfaction in what we see whether deep blue eyes or brown or hazel. Such a contemplative thoughtful, yet sad write, dear friend.

    “The image seen
within the reflection of the mirror
can mask a degree of deception
    hidden from view,”

That alone can be a poem in itself. Is it not funny how we are our own worst enemies?

“Those deep blue eyes have seen only
    what they desire to see,
    everything else was removed
    and laid to rest”

I respect and love the honesty in your work; it gives life to each word. Wonderful!
