Long ago and far away
In a castle by the sea
A maiden with raven hair
Lived in a land of fantasy
There were unicorns with golden horns
Grazing peacefully in meadows
Yet mighty dragons flew across the sky
In search of knights and fellows
Those who might steal the hand
Of the fair Princess in the tower
Must first face their deadly wrath
To prove their strength and prowess
So for many years she lived alone
Until a handsome knight with shining armor
Rode out across the flowered meadow
Exuding his strength and power
He dealt such a blow to a mighty dragon
That the others flew off in shame
And so the unicorns guided him to her door
And now the princess wears his name

Thank you for entering my very first contest! A lovely, gentle poem where quatrains and rhymes go well together. It popped in and out of the finalists list so many times! I think I should've done more HMs because I had too many really good entries and couldn't choose. What was loved most was the definate rhythm to this piece despite what some would call a bit of cliché "handsome knight with shining armor". The form was unified and the imagery was great.
Thank you again dear poet
