It's great to have a best friend who you can talk to
one who worries about the state of your your health and mind,
and a best friend should be able to be blunt to your face
and just tell you how they feel, but to be nice and kind
But if a friend of yours has bad habits that you don't like
then an intervention may tick them off, and go the wrong way,
because until your friend decides to kick those habits themselves
then you better think really hard of just what you are about to say
For I smoke myself, and I'm trying really hard to just quit it
I realize how ridiculous it is, and a major fortune it's costing me,
but the more people bug me about it, well the more ciggies I smoke
yet having someone to actually care is what GOD intended man to be
We only come in this world, with two pure lungs, and a reddish liver
and to abuse our bodies, is really ignorant, don't we care about this,
but a best friend should let you know just how they feel about you
we should thank them for making us aware so we will live in heavenly bliss.

I smoke myself, but don't drink. My family drives me nanners about stopping. I know they want me to live longer, and my grandchildren need me. There are soooo many nasty chemicals in cigs. I have tried everything to quit to no avail. My solution, I've gave it to God, he is my best friend.

Very self aware. My cousins and I once ran a campaign to get my aunt to quit smoking (we were succesful). One other thing, your background makes this quite difficult to read....

some insightful writing about the importance of friends and friendly advice. It is a good question as to when friendly advice becomes nagging. Since my daugher was diagnosed with brain cancer out of the blue at age 22, I cannot stand to see healthy people doing unhealthy things - including my other 2 children who continue to smoke. but there is a fine line between friendly advice and full on nagging, so I keep quiet even though it is killing me!

Great work! I can really see where you're coming from. I have friends that smoke but I don't bug them about it. I know that they know it will harm them so my saying anything or judging them won't help one bit. I think this is a poem that only a smoker could write and be effective. Well done!
