~The Unshot Martyr~

"And because I shot myself no one calls me a martyr"~ Hikari Lady

Been gone for decades to foreign lands, armed
with metallic weapons and shaken hopes.
Faith bleeds from the toes as feet take steps
away from home, away from warmth & love.

His shotgun slips behind him on the ground.
Dusty clothes rain lost chances for life.
Beheaded bodies scattered all around,
trauma of seeing what hearts can not endure.

Blood oozing from infinite gashes upon the skin,
skins too tired to behold what's going on.
Wills shatter at sights unbearable to claim,
friends breathe their lasts with final promises from comrades.

He climbs the stairs of his home at last, again.
Soul's broken, mind's devastated by what's been seen.
His mother is a stranger in his lifeless eyes,
so are the rest, his children, his wife.

In a room so blackened he seats himself,
recalling bloody images of what he's been through.
His pistol is loaded, he raises it up and
shoots a final blessing song into his head.

Laments echo from his soul, he's been set free,
blood and pain he shall no longer feel.

And people offering condolences say:
Oh... he was in the war before... pity his spirit was not so strong...

...And because I shot myself no one calls me a martyr...

Author notes

This quote came to my mind while I was doing some house chores and I just thought of those soldiers who suffer so much from wars, mentally and end up committing suicide, I just thought how unfair not to call these soldiers martyrs as well.

Tell me what you think of idea and poem.

Note: quote is copyright to me, if you want to use ask permission.

Thanks for reading!

Beautifully written, however, Philosophicaly flawed ( to the American point of view )

Say NO! to the Martyrs Lie

I refuse to fall on my sword
    Or on a live grenade
Take the blame for what you have done
To die so that others might live
For you, I will not suicide
    Or sacrifice for the cause
    My mind is mine
    My own gift to me
I refuse to be sower of your seed.
    To tell the continuos lie
    That to die for you
Opens Heavens gate on the other side.

"The trick is not to die for what you believe
The trick is to get the other guy to die for what he believes".
    Gen. G. S. Patton U.S. Army

"The trick is not to die for what you believe

Isn't this something like a survival. You make the enemy die so you durvive regardless of what you're believing or protecting?
I didn't know that was the Amercan theory. Thanks for the inlightment.

You used a beautiful and bold ink and soul in this poem...

we anguish along with you upon each line
and this story...is a cruel reality for many of our veterans

who feel abandoned and out out place
    back home in America!

THEIR HOMELESS AND SUICIDE RATES ARE ALARMING!
    Way to WRITE!

    Well done POET!
    well done!

This is a well written and saf truth my hope and prayer for Iraq is that cooler heads prevail now and everyone dedicates themselves to peace. I often wondered about the soldiers esp since Iraq had seen so much war in the last twenty some odd years. Almost a constant state. That has to be devestating
and I am truly sorry your country has suffered so much. No one deserves it and my prayers go out for your country every night for peace and prosperity.

I think the poem is profound and beautiful, sad and so true for so many poor souls.
    In the AN, -
I have a problem with the idea of the martyr, when people are killing themselves and others, just because they believe in a certain kind of God and the other people don't. There can only be one God, and I am sure he does not need our help in deciding who should live and who should die.
That is my rant for the day

Hmmm, but this God also said: 'Those who fight and die defending their money, people or honor are called martyrs and are promised my heaven' This is what God said in my religion anyway.
And..... huh! Why you took it in a religious way now people will mix it all up. loolz
      Love your comments always.

DEEPLY TOUCHING PORTRAYAL OF THE WAY IT IS

So many men and women seeing without end sights no one should have to ever see take it all with them forever. So much suffering , anguish, pain, and to what purpose It is those who keep putting themselves out there, that deserve our undying devotion. 's

There is chain of victim that go unseen
    so much pain and suffering,
sadly we believe we are defending pain and suffering through war
you gave me the chills while reading this
How to on with life after this. can anything be the same, flashing painful memories must be horrible not just for the ones who ended their life's, but God for so many.
    beautifully written Noor
    God bless you my friend...

    Amazing

That was the most amazing thing I have ever read on here. It was, what I would call, perfect. I almost cried, something I really, REALLY don't do. "His pistol is loaded, he raises it up and
shots a final blessing song into his head.
Laments echo from his soul, he's been set free,
blood and pain he shall no longer feel."
That may have to be "shoots" but I don't really care, it's too beautiful. I admire this piece. I'll stop babbling now.
    Fantastic job
