my nights are growing long and colder
without you no longer near
the days are longer than the days before
you promised me forever
but forever came to soon
you said this was your job, your mission in life
you were so proud of your army uniform
and i was so proud of you
when the soldier came to the door
I begged God to have him say  you were alright
that the news was wrong, that the bomb didn't hit you
but instead he said he was so sorry
you didn't make it through the night
i didn't get to tell you all i needed to say
I wasn't ready to let go
people say that all i need is time
but that's a lie
all i need is you
the 21 gun salute felt like the bullets were going through me
I know your up in heaven finally safe
and soon ill be with you too
but until God calls me home
to be with my true love
I'll cherish our memories
and your dog-tags are my keepsake
