Equality became,
condescending.
Willing became,
forced.
Welcome became,
wore out.
Friendliness became,
without.
Nice became mean,
and
smile became,
pout.
Happy became sad,
and sane became mad.
Safe became danger,
and peace became anger.
Gentleness became rage.
Meekness became violence.
In the end,
wrath caused, great silence.
All of this,
became...
the other side of tenderness.
Please tell me what you think

And I know all of that. Mine usually ended in silence, with this strange feeling of alienation, that whatever was, was negated, never existed. Blank stares, conversations that became strained, alien...relationships between civilized people end very quietly maybe...in the end there were no shouts or hatred, just an emotional divorce.
Never again. He hopes.

progression
To the conclusion happens effective in the way your lines are set up..the reader speeds up of course nearer and nearer the end. The contents are a hammer on the nail. Right on the mark. ow. I recognize you

I relate to this poem, reminds me of the stages of grief, tryig to put on a happy face and reach some kind of peace or acceptance when all you feel is rage and anger. very well expressed.

My first impression is the escalating violence in our own country. The mass shootings in Columbine has been followed by ever-increasing violence. I do believe that it starts at home. Great idea for a poem!

The starkness becomes near violent
as the contrasts compound,
but then, the reversal---unexpected
silence. A mind bender, for sure, T-D.
Great, creative concept!

This is what happens before war, fighting, murder, and some terroristic activity. A systematic decline in the treatment of others sometimes lead to sadness, anger, malice, aggression, violence, and death.....think about the school shootings. Kids used the excuse that they weren't accepted, treated with respect, loved. It's never an excuse to do wrong but some have used it and in some ways is a contributer to such violent happenings. I n any case that was the concept I was going for.
