just wait

What would you say to me if you could still speak?
Would you caress away the tears on my reddened cheek?
Or would you tell me to stop acting a fool
And walk away, your resistance bitterly cool?
All the questions I never asked
Rest in shards in my empty lap.
And I want to tell you that I just don't know what to do;
All my confidence is lost without you.

But you'd tell me to move on;
You'd let go of my little hand and whisper,
"You've always been strong"
You'd urge me to keep hold of my faith
And you would tell me that God will show the way
And that sometimes the best thing to do is pray
And after that, just wait

Don't you know I needed you today...every day?
So where were you when I screamed your name?
I'm running out of time
I'm being charged with someone else's crime!
Morning is on its way
But I just want the moon to stay
So maybe in the stars I might see your face
Why won't you tell me what to do?
I'm just trying to find the truth

I'm drowning now, lost at sea
Why are you ignoring this pain?
Why aren't you coming to save me?
The sharks are at my feet,
They can smell the blood in my shame
I can't let them win
And I finally hear your voice
Out past the horizon...

You tell me to move on
You grab hold of me and scream,
"You've had the strength all along!"
You urge me to keep hold of my faith
And you promise me God will show the way
You tell me that now is the time to pray
And after that, just wait.
