We sit there in the dark.
Feeling the pain of the abuse.
We try to look back on how this happened.
And all we see are sweet lies.
We think further back.
Of how we used to lie.
Only to make people feel worse.
Alone and hurt.
Now we see what lies can do.
The power of them.
A lie is a lie.
By any other name.
It's all the same.
Because all have the same effect.
They destroy people.
They start in the center, the heart.
They work there way out.
Like a disease, spreading.
Soon the person is infected.
They now spread the lies too.
Ahh...

I love how you called on Shakespeare here - a lie by any other name is just as destructive! Your description of the insidiousness of lying is brilliant. A lie can seem so innocent at first; and you are right - it gets planted as a seed right in the heart ~ and there it roots itself and spreads it's evil and infection. Very good writing... wow!
