Finish Line

My heart is pounding out of my chest
My feet are begging to rest
But I can’t stop running
I have come way to far
Though the world wants to stop me
I know I am the one in charge
So I bow my head and
Ram through wall after wall
Taking a beating, but refusing to fall
I started this race just crawling
Fighting for a breathe
But before I knew it I was running
Though troubles dogged my step
So I will keep running until the very end
Though the wolves are right behind me
I will not miss a step
For the finish line lies before me
Though I can’t see it yet
The starting lines behind me
My race isn’t won yet

Although the poem is dedicated to the theme of rejecting drug addiction and suicide related to that dilemma, I feel it could be applied to the internal struggle that we all go through called " life ". For me, the key line in this attempt to break free is : " I am the one in charge..." since it is all about regaining control. May you find the courage to continue - if it's based on fact- and may you never feel isolated or alone for there are always people like me who care. Love to you. Tony x

    exellent

I am currently intertwined with this race.
    struggling but running strong
i like the line "Though the wolves are right behind me
I will not miss a step"

I personally thought this poem was life in general and how it is a lifelong struggle with many ups and downs.
    great write

  • That is a hard race to run and I congratulate anyone with the courage to tackle it, for it takes a brave soul to even start the race, but a much wiser soul to have the courage to stick it out and finish it.

I think you have a typo in this line dear:

Fighting for a breathe... it should be 'breath'

I wish you much luck in the contest

I'm not exactly sure how much of this is figurative, but i did pick up on the terror in it.

This is a race I had to run myself once, not an easy race to win, but just finishing in any case is the real reward. Well done and the best of luck to you in the contest... Scott

Ever feel like the track has change directions to travel straight up a mountain, and you've had your legs bound and have to crawl....(?)
