Cast roughly from the darkness
into florescent gray realities,
head throbbing, body aching,
weak, scared... reliving-
dingy walls like bar-less cages
spreading forever before and behind,
black carpets rolling at my feet,
the darkness leaving me so alone:
running... running... running...
on slinky legs I fight forward,
heart pounding, echoing,
the only sound ringing through my ears.
Falling forward as the world spins,
the fear too much to take,
grabbing walls for some support,
back to my feet - keep moving -
there is no end to this hall
no end to the pain and fear,
looking over my shoulder I see him
the demon who never leaves...
heart jumping in my chest
I try to scream with all my breath,
the sound comes out silently
as legs buckle under me.
Squeezing eyes tightly closed
I curl myself into a ball,
everything hurts as I wait
in a dream that isn't false:
tears begin to streak my cheeks
as I wait in my sleeping hell,
his footsteps grow louder in my ears
just let it be over and done... please...
Snap awake in the darkness
shaking so bad I can hardly move,
biting my lips I suppress a scream
the guilt worse than the fear.
Even in my sleep I must relive the nightmares.
Author notes
A reoccurring dream I had as a child, I still have the same dream, but it picks up where this one leaves off. Hope this works for the contest.

horrible you had to have this dream reoccur specially as a child. i definitely felt as if i was watching you run through the dark, struggling and falling.
i think you did a good job in showing me your dream.
thanks for entering

This is really good, what a horrible dream though, I have had those dreams when your legs give way and you cant scream! Brilliant description, best of luck in the contest
