Between the dewy
freshness of spring
and the icy stare
of curmudgeon winter
summer is juxtaposed
warm and free
Greeted by the excitement
of teenagers
half naked and alive*
summer bathes in constant
sunshine, 15 hour days
and casually cooled nights
With the same resilience
of youth
summer is carefree
careful to enjoy
the caress of sun rays
Sundays and idle hours
by the pool
It is, however,so often
short lived
romance
burnt out and dry
fading in the breeze
of September, august waving
good bye
So by November
as autumn trickles in
smoothing away the
remnants of sun-kissed skin
sunburns and easy days,
15 hours of sunshine
becomes 10 and summer-
so open warm and inviting-
can be heard gasping
for one last breath
