Piano keys
chime mellow chords
to accompany the rhythmic throbbing.
It beats within my shaking skull;
a brittle melody,
a monochrome thud.
I am afraid today,
with a tawdry-edged wind
singing in voices I used to know.
They now appear
more beaten and frayed,
my favorite somber melody.
Sweet despondency,
a spiraling left-wing spin;
eyes slowly close on the count of four.
Friends say it’s a numbing sensation, it’s all the rage.
I watch them drink the poison
cupped by the hands of the stars.
I don’t believe you’ve been told
about the garden down yonder
one where a flower lies dying in the midst.
Never plucked, she lingers,
with the face of faded suns.
She waits so wretchedly, alone.

What a beautiful and bittersweet write. Every word captivated me as I read it, pulling me deeper and deeper into the darkness. I could feel the pain and loneliness as I read. You did a wonderful job here of digging deep into your soul and showing the world how you feel. The flow was very good and your word choices brilliant. Very vivid imagery as well. I absolutely love the ending, I think it just really captures the essence of the entire piece. Thank you so much for sharing. Keep up the amazing work.
