The Moon Goddess

One night
as I walked
through a forest of beach trees and snow
with the moon casting its erie glow
the beach trees shining with the light
of moon and snow;
the leaves become
like silvery green stars,
I heard a sweet song
and a gentle hum.
The sound entranced me
compelled me
so forward I did come.

In a clearing
I did find her
in a circle of beach
wrapped in silky ivy
between two trees of oak
standing dark in the light.

And upon a branch of ivy
I saw the source of the hum;
a black cat with yellow eyes
purring to the gentle song
of the goddess.

For it was all she could be;
her skin shown like the moon
her hair and dress as black as the night
her eyes sparkling as a star.

I stood there
entranced by her song.

The moon began to set.
As the moon fell behind her
she gave a deep sigh;
it sounded almost like ecstacy.

Then a flash!

When I awoke
I lay in my bed.
A dream;
that's all it could have been.

But then why
is this cat
black as night
lying next to me
with a moon on its chest...
