The Real Heroes

looking through the window

biased media is what I see

reporting sensationalism

                                   for the criminals

ignoring heroes faithfully serving for me

everyday lives are lost

fighting combat built on a lie

we must find

             weapons of massive destruction

for these heroes and families I cry

send the criminals to the front lines

let them fight side by side with our best

if they lose their lives in combat

                                      for our country

they will be real heroes

a sacrifice along with the rest

Author notes

Never forget...our troops

This may not be what you are looking for, but I get so frustrated when, the media
makes heros out of criminals. The troops need more coverage, so the families at home can get a real picture of their loved ones...The real heros...

Very true. I knew some of the most frustrating thing as a soldier being over there is how you alway heard about the bad but rarely the good. You heard about the bombing the soldiers killed the civilians killed but you never heard about the good. The new hospitals and schools opened. People no longer afraid to travel from one city to another, women having access to jobs they never had access to before people having power for most if not all the day when they only got it for a few hours before. So many things they never had before. You never saw the men and women crying because they were free of Saddam's reign. Sleeping peacefully at night knowing they weren't gonna get taken away in the middle of the night.\
Good poem you portrayed one aspect of the soldiers life well. Thank you for entering it into my contest.

Powerful idea here. We must not forget those who have put everything they got on the line for us to be able to live our lives the way we do.

    Being here...

I will tell you that the "Stars and Stripes" every once in a while will publish inserts that explain much of what soldiers do here. If you go to "Stars and Stripes" online you'll find many interesting stories about our troops. Sadly, that's about the only place you'll find well written, unbiased work supporting soldiers. Good write poet.

In LINE 13 I believe you meant "if they lose their lives in combat"

I so agree the troops need more coverage I have three sons in the Marines one whom has been to Iraq twice now and soon will be leaving for Afghanistan. It makes me so mad when the media covers so many other stories but briefly talk about our soldiers who fight each day to keep us all free. They would not be able to report news to the world without our military to keep them free and safe.

    Hugs
