Unjustified Justice

Protect me from the truth:
I am too ignorant to know.
To know why you kill my sisters,
My brothers,
Many kin of many colours.
To know why you try to trick me
Into hating
Humans from another nation.
Sign my name to your cause.
I am too easily appeased.
Appeased by your tales of defence,
Clever words
Tear this planet into two worlds.
Appeased by your propaganda:
My child’s eyes
Cannot see the breadth of your lies.
Protect me from the truth:
I am too ignorant to know.
To know why you kill my sisters,
My brothers,
Many kin of many colours.
To know why you try to trick me
Into hating
Humans from another nation.

I am the many-faced being,
Pieces too easily shattered.
Shattered like a stone to the glass.
No sorry.
Like a shell to child’s body.
Shattered like the bonds of cease-fire:
Violate.
But no one taught me how to hate.

We share life as our blood flows as one,
Waiting for the day the hate is gone.
We are all sisters, brothers:
We are kin of many colours.

Author notes

I wrote this poem just after America announced that it had gone to war with Afghanistan. I was 15 but, to me, it was the rest of the world that seemed naive if they believed that killing was the answer to killing.

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!
