The Blue City

Istambul, Turkey, 2008

Stranger
by a neighbourly way,
I feel like an odd
female slave,
captured from
the men's stare
in this harbour
coffee shop.

The blue city
on the blue sea-shore...
(the blue for the sea is a cliché, I know)
but look,
I' am singing about Bosfore,
and I' am gonna cry as more as I need to,
because soon I have to go
and because I' m full of sorrow too.

Sitting gently on the sofa,
I' m smoking a "shisha",
I' m covering my tears with smoke,
pretending, oh, my God,
I am crying over the History,
I never cared actually much about...

You know,
I' m crying because
in my lonely life
I felt only once
the Big Love,
and only for a while.

While standing on the sea-shore,
I fell in love in this City's feelings
and my love gave me a big joy,
so the days I' ve passed living
in Istambul were the happiest
in my whole life.

Author notes

Please, excuse my simple and not too "literate" English, but as you can see, it 's not my mother tongue

The picture is a beautiful one, and your poem went well with it. I would never have realized English was not your native tongue!!

I would divulge in asking if 'slave' be a way of portraying the history than a more personal note diligent to part take in it somewhere. It seems almost timeless a piece that extracts time and patience, as an uttering that once removed, you'd be wondering why you have not moved on to some other area of the same locale if not at all given hope in a new whereabouts. There is certainly an impatience to move on in this piece. I wish you well in that journey. Lovely heart felt moments in this piece.

    welcome to allpoetry

It is still a lovely write, no matter your native tongue. I especially like your last stanza. Very well put together... the images created and emotion flowing through.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Keep reading, writing and sharing.
