Camille

In dreams I watch you beckon me
    Like some ideal,
You stand across a crimson sea,
    Alone, Camille.

Hand in hand we walk through realms
    With strange appeal,
On hillsides forested with elms,
    My Fey Camille.

Your sandstone castle on a bluff
    Where bronze bells peal,
Here I can never have enough
    Of you, Camille.

Down corridors of cedar hewn,
    Worked with vermeil,
Our way lit by the temptress moon
    You own, Camille.

Vague memories within your room,
    They half congeal,
Just terrors in the haunted gloom
    With you, Camille.

I see that statue on the mall,
    It seems so real,
He is, you say, the seneschal
    You made, Camille.

He’s made of bronze, yet still he moves,
    It seems surreal,
Such magic all your power proves,
    My dark Camille.

At twilight, when the dark stars rise
    And far bells peal,
I fall a slave to your sad eyes,
    My dark Camille.

There, in the humid midnight air
    Your kisses seal
My heart within a bleak despair,
    For shame, Camille.

And when I wake I’m spent and crushed
    Beneath some wheel
Of awful woe, but then am hushed
    By you, Camille.

I blame not you, or any one,
    Beneath your heel
I suffer till all Time is done,
    My poor Camille.

I seek no help, for there is none,
    My fine genteel
Dark empress of oblivion,
    My sleek Camille.

My magics conjured you and made
    A Siren feel
That she should scorn the sun. The shade
    Is yours, Camille.

Your beauty like a comet’s arc
    Fills all with zeal,
A sorceress who loves the dark,
    My own Camille!

A beautiful dedication. Each stanza is perfectly crafted with not a word out of place. Your way with rhyme is most enviable and your poetry always takes me away. I especially loved the final stanza. Bravo on writing such a gorgeous poem.

As I am reading this, I hear my daughter playing her guitar in the other room and I can't kept help but to sing these lines. They are like lyrics. Wonderful write here.

I found within this piece that there is beauty in the darkest hour of the day. This is a work of art, better than mine I think. I love it. I'll bookmark this poem so I can come back to appreciate it even more than the first times.

Nicely written and such a wonderful tribute.

    excellent

This was a tribute to a personality that sang a lot and sang very appreciatively. You have some way of writing and that catches the attention.Mine was caught fully. I am honest long poems do not consume my full attention but this one did.Right from start to end. Thanks a million for sharing this.I liked these lines for their final deification of Camille:

You are some Fey celestial ark
    None may repeal,
A sorceress who loves the dark,
    My own Camille!

  • wonderful a masterpiece of poetry, i truely loved every word, take care

A beautiful and mysterious tribute of a poem... It just unfolds before your eyes like a flower, if not a poison one from the darkness and beauty of the write!

    "My own Camille". . .

ah, I recognize this form - and I am awed by it. . .like Swinburne's "Faustine" and Kevin N. Roberts' "Allayne" - this is a brilliant write. The way it keeps flowing, unfurling the tale of this mysterious beautiful Camille - "Dark empress of oblivion". . .it was about here - "And when I wake I’m spent and crushed/Beneath some wheel/Of awful woe, but then am hushed/By you, Camille" - that I was fully enchanted by this poem. . .marvelous, good Sir Michael.

Such a beautiful poem, skillfully written with great tone, clever rhyme patterns, and that splendid descriptiveness that is all your own. A master of the craft you are dear friend. Always an immense pleasure to read your lovely works! , Dannie

  • This poem made me cry a little. I mean, this is art. It's poems like these that help make poetry so lovely. This poem was so descriptive and I could really picture everything. My favorite lines were:

My magics conjured you and made
    A Siren feel
That she should scorn the sun. The shade
    Is yours, Camille.

It's a beautiful poem to honor him with!!! A wondrous charm in imagery meter and rhyme: "My fine genteel/Dark empress of oblivion,/My sleek Camille." What an incredible portrait of her, a delicious femme fatale, not only in these lines but in the whole poem!

This has such flawless flow, it hooks you and keeps you reading. To me it displays a dark, moonlit scene, very beautiful.

[Our way lit by the temptress moon]
[Just terrors in the haunted gloom]

Those are my favorite lines. The first strikes me because I love the moon and every mention of dear Luna. The second is haunting, it speaks to me of shadows and shades. Great write.
