Dimebag Darrell

We honor your birthday today
and your marvelous music insight.
A thousand guitars will now play
their chords are in your name tonight.
You're a glorious rebel indeed,
a movement you helped to inspire.
You drank and smoked a lot of weed
happiness was your only desire.

Your hands how they wailed and they screamed
all the notes we'll forever remember.
No one could've possible dreamed
of that cold day in tragic December.
Music is left with a void
since the night you departed this Earth
but still I am here overjoyed
celebrating your wonderful birth.

A known legend of Rock N Roll
today we will give you a toast.

We pay our respects to a soul
whose presence is felt from coast to coast.
Somewhere you're out there still playing
and smiling with your black tooth grin.
Here on Earth we are all saying
that we wish we all could join in.

Author notes

August 20, 1966. the day Darrell Abbot was born.
December 8, 2004. The day that Darrell and a few others were tragically taken from us in Columbus Ohio at a Damageplan show. Today we remember the legacy that Derroll left for all rock, metal, and outlaw country musicians.

I know a lot of people who love Dimebag, I never was a really big fan of the bands but you can't help but feel respect for a talented artist. This poem makes me want to write a poem dedicated and inspired by someone who has effected me. Wonderful write.
