Funeral For A Friend

Missing image

We were supposed to grow old
sitting on the front porch swing
and laugh until the stars disappeared.

You saved the dark chocolate for me
brought me white roses

just because,
and turned a bashful girl
into a princess,

but midnight came too soon.

~

You promised to always be here
no matter what!

You always loved my poetry.
I never dreamed I would recite it
at a funeral for my best friend.

I see you lying there so peacefully,
but, I will never believe that you are gone.

~

I feel your hand on my shoulder
when I feel I can't go on,
and sometimes, I feel your smile

when sunshine blooms my flowers.

For every magical moment
since you've been gone,
and every light in my life,
I feel the flutter of your presence
and I smile,

knowing you kept your promise.

♥♥

Author notes

In memory of my best friend Eloy
I miss you

and dedicated to my Cuz Scott. (Errant Panther) I feel your pain, Cuz. Please know that
they may leave us physically, but, their spirit is always with us!

This is so beautiful. I had to hold back tears.

"I feel your hand on my shoulder
    when I feel I can't go on,
and sometimes, I feel your smile"

That really stood out to me.
Congrats on getting the gold by the way, you deserved it for sure.

My soulmate committed suicide a few years ago, so I can relate too well to this touching piece. It really moved me. Nicely done. Thanks for entering my anniversary contest! It's my pleasure to read your work!

Very moving, and even though the theme is sad, you've managed to evoke the positive ways the memories, impressions and influence of others can live within us and beside us even after they are gone. A lovely poem.

To feel such pain one first has to feel the love.It is that love, once held that helps to heal the pain. One goes with the other.
A beautiful tribute to a clearly loved person I rarely select any line or section of a poem as i think it demotes the rest of the work In this case the last line promotes the whole write into a different level
    Excellent
