It is something from my past
that has beckoned me to peek inside.
the night air persisting
nothing but the moon to shadow the stone
even in the day
it holds a shadow
a place the sun never touches.
It is nearly covered with snow and ice.
the wind blows away the torn curtains
This place I feel distracts me
I try to ignore it,
but it lures me in...
begging for intruders
stories of the place haunts
adrenaline builds
as the winter breeze
burns my cheeks.
the door is slightly ajar.
I see nothing but darkness..
my imagination runs wild.
I can hear footsteps in the snow.
crunching behind me.
hidden in the night
by mystery
exceeded by bravery.
the eerie feeling
mixed with the 10 below temperature.
causes shock.
The house is nearly withered away.
the cement structure
cracking under pressure.
I could only imagine
what those walls have seen.
years of wear and tear.
I wondered if once.
It had warmth to it.
The night wails
howling through the trees.
as the door opens
just a little more.
it seems so inviting.
yet the invitation
could be deadly.
I am closer than ever
as I touch the cold knob.
the heat from my hand melts the snow.
"I dare you"
they said
my heart racing
pumping the warm blood
hard and fast through my veins.
the door creaked loudly
as I pulled it open slow
the rush I had crashed
as I took a step inside.
the blackness swallowed me.
engulfing me with past lives
that once walked this very floor.
the floor that I covered with snow from my boots.
I made it halfway
through the old abandoned house.
when the realization hit me.
I have walked past this place everyday
afraid of what was inside
and here I was
Inside.
fear is only a four letter word..
one that I let take over me.
I was brave now,
accomplished
and as I heard the door slam shut.
the four letter word creeped back into place.
