do you ever wake early and lay there pretending
to sleep although you cannot help but move
& sigh to the rhythm of the person asleep next to you
sometimes, i have my best poetic thoughts
when my brain is unscrambling sleep patterns
where dreamscapes have left their images
collections of random words and pictures
distant sounds flicker on
slow-waking kaleidoscope eyes
he turns & mutters some words
only to make sense to me
his bursting star and steadying hand
all wrapped up in enigma linen
& it's so easy to cocoon his nightmares
on days when i wake early
i make coffee
fold yesterday's newspaper
fluff the cushions on the couch
turn on the computer
and learn about the world

so beautiful Gill, soft, delicate, yet a strength is felt too from these words...love all the sensual imagery, the textures, enjoyed reading this so much.

"all wrapped up in enigma linen"
This single line, alone, seems to be a thousand more poems in the making, Gill. Lovely, soft, serene and endearing. Such a charmer you are, Sweetie. Who could resist?

I'm with Juls, I could sit with my coffee and read you all morning because it feels real, and so right. Thanks you.

yes...few can write the everyday things, the little things that matter, better than you, gilly.
this is most beauty-full and left me sighing and smiling. this feels very much like my world of days (well, except for waking up next to someone)

i simply love these musings of yours. you just keep writing them, gilly

Gil
you always seem to illuminate the common things and elevate them to poetry. you will never run out of subjects. two things about you that are so rich: you are honest and you are perceptive. a third thing, i am keeping secret.
michael
