lions and chess

our hearts are fiery furnaces when
we play chess on sunny evenings
and i am prone to be overcome by you.

there are two bishops on your breasts
anointed with the power of holy matrimony,
waiting for the little men inside of me
to show up at the altar

we always wait for the ceremony to begin
with the sons of abraham shining in our eyes

i am not a wolf; i'm a lion;
proud lions shall i bear
who roar like i roar...
with confidence and fervor

daniel just left the Den
and he churns and burns
in the fiery furnaces

...
pawn to E4
...

daniel just left the Den again

he churns and burns
in the fiery furnaces
no longer, never
looking back
inside the decaying tomb
inside the humming tomb
inside the illuminating tomb,
where the angel kissed him,
placed lips upon his philtrum
and seal the many secrets
of the earth within him

he churns and burns
in the fiery furnaces
no longer, never
looking back

i am not a wolf; i'm a lion;
proud lions shall i bear
who roar like i roar...
with confidence and fervor

you move your queen and i my knight;
it's clear that it's a draw this time.

Author notes

someday in the very distant future i hope to receive good tidings of great joy which will reduce me to shepherd-like humility, whereupon i can read this poem to lioness accompanying me.
