In the deep, dark cavern of your covers
I've found a place where I could be
anyone but myself.
I've found a place where I can lie
with little effort.
Even though my smile is stretched,
paper thin, caked on like clay, cracked like the pavement
you step on.
And even though my hands aren't fast enough
to stop yours as they race along
my body paving new roads.
And even when, just before, I breathe-
wait-
You somehow don't hear it and we're lost
in the sounds and the movements.
I'm lost and drowning in you.
In the deep, dark chasm of my heart
I've made a home.
I've found a place that no one
can take.
I've found a place where I can hide
with little effort.
Even though my smile is plastered,
painted on, plastic, fake.
And even though my thoughts aren't for some reason
connected to my mouth,
I still say with all my broken heart-
Beneath this I know,
It's over.
