Shadow

Small and tender, freed of clothes,
She lies awake at night.
He looks her over, top to toes,
Shadowed by the light.

She moves her lips and closes eyes,
A fickle shadow falls,
He hopes that they should not arise
But heed a cupids calls.

Warm together, not afraid,
Close and calm she seems.
They breathe a rhythm, slow and smooth
Adrift the shadow dreams.

The guild of hopeful, glint of free,
How swift the darkness leaves
A simple shadow, soft decree,
A dream that she believes

Will never come, will not obey,
Never heed the call
And with the darkness steal away,
Like a shadow fall.

In the morning, will she rise,
And feel the living dream?
Or lie apart, cold and hard,
A shadow will he seem.
