I've watched with my mouth closed,
life and those around me living.
My family and how empty their hearts
left me feeling so unforgiving.
Father, I saw as you, trying to be
nothing like the father you knew.
But no matter how much love I gave,
I got nothing from you.
Grandfather, I watched you push
love out of your way for a shot to succeed.
No time for family, no time for a laugh,
I've only got time to work til I bleed.
Mother, I stood and spied you
With one hand protecting me and my self.
While the other wiped away the tears from your eyes,
but you had no free hand to protect yourself.
And while I watched the others,
my heart crying for the things they couldn't see.
I realized I forgot to live and that
the one who was really left behind, was me.
