Juvenile Junkie

I confess that I am hooked on this stuff
If I can’t get enough I start to feel rough.
I became addicted as a lad at school,
Easily turning into a lifelong fool.

My first supplier was Waddington-Feather
He soon had me hooked for ever.
He gave it out absolutely free –
Wanting to make an addict of me.

But this wasn’t the stuff to snort up my nose.
This was literature, books, poetry and prose.
He captured me and my classmates as well.
He taught us more than the right way to spell.

    Getting high on poetry

I've been there myself so I know what you mean,
though I haven't been here long I am very keen.
I'll happily thank all the powers that be
for inventing the spell check for duffers like me.
as I said in a poem, my causes to frown
punctuation and grammar are letting me down.
Yet I'll go on writing what else can I do
I'm addicted I'm hooked just a junkie like you.

Thanks for reading and writing, especially in rhyme!
For me the spell checkers a curse... it thinks I'm a Yank!
For a Yorkie like me that's a shame and a crime.
So the OED is my preferred word bank.

PS I know I can opt for UK English but it's still not Tyke

      Thanks for reading and writing.
At least it is one of the least harmful addictions.

Thanks for reading and writing. I hope in my time I've inspired some budding mathematicians as much as JJ inspired me.

Jim there is nothing better than a teacher who can inspire their students with what they are teaching. A rare gift, sadly there are too few around
    Well done

I couldn't agree more. JJ, as we called him, had a bigger impact than i realised at the time. He is still going strong as a poet and priest. He runs a publishers with another of my "old" teachers of English.
