I Can Play This Game(gold)

They sometimes call me stupid mutt
but I don't really mind,
'cos I know how to play their game
I'm not that flipping blind!

It's also said I'm man's best friend
I'm never far away,
knowing all the ploys and lurks
much worship I display.

And when I don't do what they say
like running 'cross the road,
I get a mighty telling off
as ears almost explode.

I skulk into a corner
with such look of mournful plea
pretending that I'm sorry
when I'm busting for a pee.

But I sit there looking serious
repentent for my crime,
knowing I'll be forgiven
only a matter of time.

I surely don't regret my sin
that risk I quite enjoyed,
I'm cunning and I'm clever
this repentance a decoy.

I know better than that cat
who sticks her nose up high,
pretending they are peasants
their own actions they deny.

I'm man's best friend because I know
just how I must react,
rewarded for wrongdoings
and for putting on my act!

Author notes

A cat, after being scolded, goes about its business. A dog slinks off into a corner and pretends to be doing a serious self-reappraisal. ~Robert Brault

    I skulk into a corner
with such look of mournful plea
    pretending that I'm sorry
when I'm busting for a pee.
