Like a fine, birch leaf

I shiver
under your touches
like a fine
silvery birch leaf
carried by the water
to the estuary
of my wishes.
I meet you
with the softness
and the warmth
of June's grass.
I carry in my heart
life's elixir
of true,
tenacious roots
and I blossom
for you
once again

    Outstanding

This is such a delicate poem -the imagery is well drawn and very immediate suggesting romance and the joy of love. The metaphors add to the effect of the poem and reflect nature. A brilliant poem.

    "I carry in my heart

First of all, thank you for entering, Sonja. You know that Nicolette is not only a very dear Friend of mine (as are you, of course), but one of my greatest sources of inspiration, as well. Just her comments alone has made me write numerous poems.

This is a very sweet penning you've offered to us all, one which overflows with tender poignancy, with the essences of strength and bravery coursing throughout each line...for it takes a courageous soul to love, to love again after loss.

Your poetry always seems to address the natural fragrances within us...the reference to roots, to blossoms, to the estuary (a lovely word, one that is not seen enough in poetry, I think). Your line "I meet you/with the softness/and the warmth/of June's grass" is a very telling testament to your own nature, I believe.

Your writing always contains your sweet spirit, your generosity of heart, your propensity towards laughter and kindness. It is a very endearing part of you that brings people swiftly to your door, to bathe in the light you inevitably shine upon our upturned faces.

Good luck in the contest, Sweetie.

this is absolutely gorgeous, Sonja! Birch trees are my favorite tree, i love:
    "silvery birch leaf
    carried by the water
    to the estuary
    of my wishes."

you word choice in this poem is beautiful and carried through the poem so wonderfully.

    Bordering on the Russian....

They are always talking about birches, and 'little birch-tree' is a term of endearment. It's a lovely poem, tho' it would be improved were l.14 to omit 'the'. My view.

Oh wow, Sonja!!! What an unexpected honour, my friend. You know that i simply love natural metaphors and that is one of the reasons that i so love your poetry. Oh, but also the softness of your voice. What a beautiful poem...what better metaphor for love and loving that a tree (like Rumi said "trees are poems that nature writes upon the sky..."). I'm so happy that my poem inspired this beauty from your pen. This is a tree-poem in full blossom - and beautiful!
