Bruised bags under my eyes
beaten by flicking hands, fist
drilling minutes, seconds,
splitting eyelids - a flutter
similar to an immobile,
perched set of robotic
moth wings twinged by light wind,
trying to keep awake.
Each tick of the line
slicing silence in two's,
then third's, sixtieth's, then
into those unheard minutes
before noon, or was it
midnight the night before,
this is where my knees feel restless
and my ears begin to deafen.
I will lose to this mechanical drip
of the past spitting at the future
only hitting me before it gets there,
laughing and knowing I've trapped myself
within.
But if I shut down systems
rebooting may call for a restart,
erasing any memory of what this
entire dream meant.

anytime i have dreamt, i am awake in them. lol... but this is more like a restless night, one that you want to fall asleep and maybe think you do, but actually are awake through it all.
'I will lose to this mechanical drip
of the past spitting at the future
only hitting me before it gets there,
laughing and knowing I've trapped myself
within.'
i really liked that stanza. it was as if you took the past and future colliding making the alarm trap you in the present.

to toss and turn
This makes me feel tired. The restlessness of a dream of this nature is evident in the words you've used. I imagine tossing and turning, waking up to a cold sweat and the red eyes of an alarm clock announcing a time much earlier than you expected. Fantastic word choice and imagery (as always).
"perched set of robotic
moth wings twinged by light wind,
trying to keep awake."
- This creates a particularly strong image for me.
"I will lose to this mechanical drip
of the past spitting at the future"
- Perfect.
Write more.

It has been Some time
This has great word use. I can put myself there as I read. And see the longing to stay awake, but still not sure if Im awake. Very well done my friend
