sleepless

laying in the stillness
watching all around
waiting for something to move
for a sound amongst the silent

trying not to move
listening to the sounds of the night
as they lull me into darkness

the cool blankets cover me
as i snuggle deep inside
laying in complete comfort
yet still wide awake

the fan sends a light breeze
it blows from side to side
hitting me in the crosswind
the noise is peaceful
like a soft summer day

the light in the corner gives a glow to the air
casting shadows on the walls around
the patterns play tricks on my eyes
giving new insight to dreams

the clock ticks as the time passes
it gets later by the minute
but my eyes still stare into silence

the world is quiet
at least for now

laying in the stillness
waiting for morning to approach
hoping the time will pass faster
because sleep isnt coming fast enough

squeezing my eyes shut
hoping they will stay
yet my mind races
remembering the day
and i know it will be another sleepless night
