Headlights in the Rain

Hazy, pale lights before me
Illuminating what's to come
but never what has been,
swallowed in the darkness
of dream forgotten long ago
Hazy, pale thoughts drip through my mind
like the diamond sparkles
rolling slowly down the windsheild,
glittering for a moment
in the oncoming lights
then falling into darkness
like all the rest
Why am I here?
the little voice asks again
and again I have no answer.
It's warm and dry,
I argue with myself
but I know thats no reason.
Still, it's the best I can do right now
I can't think
All I get are tiny thoughts
glittering quickly in my mind
ten swallowed by the darkness.
They have no meaning, no answer
hidden in the glittering letters
to help me find myself.
Oh well
says the little voice again
"Oh well"
I say in reply
at least it's warm and dry
and the glittering drops
make pretty patterns
as I drive around watching the
pale, hazy headlights in the rain
