Change

Walk pass me on the street
Judging with a glance
Refusing to let our eyes meet
Never giving it a chance

Acting like I don't exist
Isn't the right answer
Racism destroys relations
Spreading like a cancer

We were all made in His image
Can't we all just get along
Try to accept one another
Try to make right our wrongs

I'm just like you educated, smart
There's more to me than colored skin
Open your eyes then you'll see
Below the surface the soul within

My dream is that we'll live as one

Let us start to pave the way

Change is coming, I can tell

It is here to stay

    Bravo!!!!!

Very well put. What a wonferdul and tasteful way to make the point be known. If everyone felt this way, this world would be a better place. Good luck in the contest.

Good work still revise your ideological approach

Encounter poetry are strong in impact and penetration especially one dealing with the pains of racism. Such lyric appeals to the very heart of humanity and not to the sympathy of religion or tradition.

Strong work and Still Searching for ideological perfection.

You make your point well. Racism is something that needs to end in our society. President Obama would love this. I thought of him when I was reading this, and how he said that while his presidency proves that we've made progress, race still is sometimes a factor.

ah how sad that you should feel this way. I pray the day will one day come when we can just feel happy to be who we are, without fear of judgement for anything other than wrong behaviour towards others. Well done with the gold, nice rhyme scheme and a well balanced approach to the subject matter.

I like this piece, and you were skilled enough to rhyme it perfectly.. Good work, well done ;-)

  • BRAVO!

Congrats on the gold. It is well deserved.
Change will come. Like you, I too can feel it.
I see it when see my grandkids come home from school and tell me about a new friend who
comes from a different ethnic background. I feel it when I get a genuine smile from people who would otherwise turn away. And when I see a rainbow of people laughing and enjoying each others company. We still have far to go but, we'll get there.

  • right on poet, i enjoyed this, take care

    Excellent poem!
    well done!

    It does feel like..........
We are going through a powerful transition together.

Learning the boundaries, rules, a deeper understanding of
    defense and offense.
    Which at it's worst...can be defensive...and ...offensive.

I notice some of us are struggling to learn.
    Some are walking on tip-toes
some dive in head first hoping for the best boldly.
(lest we forget the huge controversary over one simple word ..
    our Dear Pres. did regret..."stupidly"
(I personally thought it was the correct word but I'm still learning too)
    and yet.......
    some are.....on the side-lines...
watching and waiting....as if judges or executioners
    to offer applauds..or...angrily jeer...

    Don't you think...it's a little interesting..that because
    of our...transition state....
the right wing extremists are actually taking advantage
of it...by SCREAMING, faxing horrifying images and death threats
to our representatives and Provoking FEAR.

I sure hope the last lines in your verse remind us all
that this...transition..and it's growing pains are absolutely worth it!

"My dream is that we'll live as one
Let us start to pave the way
Change is coming, I can tell
It is here to stay ."

that would be a great song!
