"Aren't you afraid of missing out on eternity," she said to me.
Eternity...
is already here,
I can already see forever.
Time rolls on, from unknown past
to unforseeable future,
Never ending Time,
not measured in the paltry lives of men. (and women)
The Earth takes no notice,
as we pass from birth through life to death and beyond.
(If there is a beyond)
A rock cares nothing
for the little measurements we place upon it.
An hour has no meaning to mice and men and all the gods
who have ever lived in the minds of their creators.
What is eternity?
A vaulted hall,
a gathering of saints,
a cloud upon which to sit by
and watch from on high.
Is it all of these or is it none at all?
Could eternity be the negation of the infinite?
We already have forever,
here and now,
yesterday and tomorrow.
Celestial skies have no end that can be taken in.
History began before I was born,
and will march on long after I have passed into oblivion.
What if eternity was a small room,
smoky walls and spider webs,
limitations that hem us in for forever?
If now is forever
when and where is never?

This piece reeks of contempt and arrogance. It displays a confidence that within your own intellect are adequate tools to measure the infinite. It makes a declaration that there is no evidence to evaluate. It only sees the pathetic in man and then declares that man can only be pathetic. It paints a picture of a very clever mind, already trapped in limitation.

Uh,...O.K. Is this a reflection of the poem or of the one who reads it. I would need more specific reference to which parts are saying what to you to really understand what you mean.
P.S. As part of a tatoo on my right arm is the latin phrase, "Intellectus Iudicat Veritatem", a favored phrase of the Rosicrucians and various other "heretical" groups and individuals of the Middle Ages. Translation: Intellect judges truth.
---also, in the words of Indiana Jones, "Truth is for philosophers."

Very nice way to put what goes through your mind wandering what happens to us after death and where we might go. The inspiration that keeps us alive tends to be what our purpose is and trying to figure it out. Lovely write.

Two things first: I love "all the gods who have ever lived in the minds of their creators" and "could eternity be the negation of the infinite." This is an incredibly thought-provoking write, philosophic in nature and inspiring in its imagery and its testing of limitations, its questioning what is, especially since we know that what is is not always what has been and what has been and what is are not necessarily what will be. Indeed, what if eternity were a small room the hemmed us in forever? Is thinking of eternity as something we can actually define a limitation of its own? I think this is a really outstanding write with a brilliant thought process behind it! Thanks for sharing :-D.
If now is forever, when and where is never...hmm...

What friend if there is more ... .
Much more ... .
Not only within the confines of the mind,
seeking the answer to this quest, question.
Friend I believe broader ... .
It will always remain to be with God ... .
Far-far more.
So I ask you ... oh dear-friend-of mine ... .
What if there ... .
IS MORE ... .
Something far-more ... .
Tan my-finite mind-alone ... .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
An absolutely beautiful expression friend ... .
A generous expression ... .
To the original quest,
Question ... .
