Roots sprout from the pads of my bare fett, shooting deep into the earth
They reach up- and downward, stringing my body through to the dusty ground
Vines entangle themselves into my bloodstream, running through my beating heart
Flowers burst from my eyesockets and turn my face up towards the sun and sky
Their petals bloom and explode with color, shading the fragile skin beneath
Clouds cover the heavens above, casting shadows on the rolling hills
Blades of rich grass twinkle in the glittering spots of sunlight forming crooked shapes
Petals retract and shield themselves from the coming onslaught of water
Soon, drops of relieving destruction descend upon exposed greenery and flesh
Splashed erupt, reaching towards the sky and falling through the air in droplets
Puddles form and encase few lives within their feeble grip
The roots protruding from my feet eagerly drink the replenishing rain
Life pumps back through my flesh, turned earthly by my blood
My lungs cease to function, and my arms extend up and outward
Heavy drops pound my leafening body and it soaks in through picayune pores
Within, my heart--sprouting further growth--beats with overwhelming joy
The clouds break apart and sunlight pours down with an unnatural evenness
Leaves that have swallowed my fingers, rejoice in the calming warmth
I lose my human self as my hidden soul emerges and expands in all directions
Spirit leaps from vines in my skin, up to the glowing atmosphere
The leafy mass that has taken over my weak flesh, collapses onto the grass
Blades once so lush and full--brown and dry into a corpse of crumbling bits
With a thud, the mass crunches on the boundless, dead lawn
Still soaring, my soul is lifted into a blissful peace in the heavens
They reach up- and downward, stringing my body through to the dusty ground
Vines entangle themselves into my bloodstream, running through my beating heart
Flowers burst from my eyesockets and turn my face up towards the sun and sky
Their petals bloom and explode with color, shading the fragile skin beneath

Author notes
I wanted to describe how it felt for me to stand in the rain and feel so connected to the earth. I thought I might just start with a metaphor, but I figured I'd make it seem all-too-real. The metaphor escalated to the point where I just couldn't stop it.
I hope you like it. : )
