one step forward, two steps back
falling further behind with each step
running up the escalator, trying to make it back
the pressure is building behind, shoving me towards the ground
one step forward, one more step to the side
shuffling up the stairs to fall back down again
lacing up my shoes o stay in the game
leaping higher and jumping further, missing all of the holes
one step forward, one leap to theleft
dodging obsacles trying to keep my pace
keeping my eyes in front hoping to avoid distractions
focusing my mind to the beaten path, letting nothing keep my attention
listening to every breath go in and out,
every heart beat that sings to the drum of my feet
one step ahead, zero steps behind
the sweat rolls down my back and drips to the ground
the air thickens as it gets harder to breethe
one step in front of me, eyes on the prize
running faster to beat the clock,
to cross the finish line
