August 2, 2009; The British Museum, London, England; Upon Visiting the Egyptian Gallery.

I read none of the plaques
  and meandered,
    like a bored tourist,
through the sarcophagi

            bedecked in royal turquoise
  and anciently alien glyphs,
    and yawned at the king
waiting behind plate glass for eternity

            and his native sands.

Woe to them who took those
                souls away from home.
