The Eagle Has Landed.

Missing image

Twentieth July, nineteen sixty nine
one small step for man treading lunar shine.
Eagle lands alone moon a distant care
world of watching eyes eagerly aware.

Mankind's giant leap, moonlit destiny
fly the distant skies, fly the spirit free.
Astronauts in space orbiting the sky
quest that haunted men reaching out so high.

Evermore they lie footprints made by man
journey's quest a prayer since this life began
conquered now it lies shining ever bright
greeting starbound eyes sparkled with delight.

Whither now we go ? Saturn, Venus, Mars ?
Stepping stones in space, gateway to the stars.

This is a great offering for the prompt, Scribe. I was eleven years old when the lunar landing occurred. We had a television in my 6th grade class to watch it when having a TV in one's classroom was still a huge deal. There are moments in history when one remembers precisely where they were at the instant it transpired; this was one of them. Good luck in the contest, my Friend. Great picture, too.
