89th Birthday

Salty ice and cigarette

Drinking whisky

Bitter memories and pain

I know I'm 89 already

You may write a poem

To celebrate my birthday

But it wont be as good

As if it was written by me

Because you are not the

fabulously egocentric. hope I am half that good at 89.

  • Nice, quirky tribute to the late and great Charles Bukowski.
    A job well done!
I'm sure he'd feel honored if he had, had the opportunity to read this.

    Safely hidden in the darkness,

Very nice job here. Isn't it fun to write about the ones we admire? I do think this is a great tribute to a worthy writer. Keep penning, you improve every day.

mmmmmmm ,,,,, well not much excited.. but it's okkkkkkk)))...

  • I like how you used snippetts from the picture as like words in the poem. If you know what I mean. I did like this poem, it was you know different from most of other poems. I hope this person has a good sixty ninth birthday. I hope he celebrates it happy and well. A nice simple poem. Keep it up.

  • Humz.. Good Work
you have used the nip of your pen in an old Italic Style

Wow I like his work - but is he still alive? I had no idea!

I like the salty ice and cigarette image (though you misspelled cigarette) - it's suggestive and lets the reader make their own story from it. I like the first stanza most because it's more descriptive but not preachy. The second stanza is simple and appreciative, but it confuses me. Are you writing a dedication to him from his point of view? Also, considering who it's for, personally I'd prefer "because" rather than "cause", to sound more elegant. Sweet of you to write this.

  • Very nice :]
I quite liked this dedication to him. I hope I'm as lively as him when I get to 69

    Great write, keep it up.

Let Charles Bukowski be himself, his pain is not new. a bit of wisdom in your poem. most older people carry pain of some sort and do it in their own way.
By the way, the picture speaks volumes.
