I'll not find you out

I'll not find you out
like the list of a scavenger hunt
or a favorite coat in the back of the closet
that you never thought you'd see again.
Yet you found it.
And you were happy.

As for me, I was naked-
defenseless against any of your harm.
Just as it was when you said you had to go home
and went to a place far away from me.
I realized my heart was not where you belonged.
Yet I survived, slowly.
And I am walking on two feet.

I'll not find you out
or perhaps I simply will not try.
I am the photograph rediscovered years from now,
but even then I will not return.
I will keep walking a fine line
between memory and regret,
though I know now my nakedness
was never your intent.
For I will be a memory
wherever you call home.

The last strophe is very nicely tucked in.  I especially like

I am the photograph rediscovered years from now

I almost want it to read

I am the photograph rediscovered years from now
for I will be a memory
    wherever you call home.

When I first read this bit I read harm as arm and it made perfect sense--after re-reading it I liked arms better.

defenseless against any of your harms.

defenseless against any of your arms.

    Nice piece,

    Josh
