Great Ceto will awaken in the deep
When Triton blows his conch-shell long and loud,
She has a rendezvous that she must keep.
For Zeus in fearsome guise of bull will creep;
To have Europa he had always vowed.
Great Ceto will awaken in the deep.
Then Thetis all the beds of kelp will reap,
To tarry now, is strictly disallowed,
She has a rendezvous that she must keep.
And Triton's trident with one awful sweep
Will silence chatter of the merfolk crowd
Great Ceto will awaken in the deep.
The kelp with precious wedding wine they'll steep;
Here comes the bride, her step is light and proud
She has a rendezvous that she must keep.
For one, this wedding night there is no sleep,
Removing clouds, lest they the stars enshroud,
Great Ceto will awaken in the deep,
She has a rendezvous that she must keep.

A well deserved silver and a beautiful read, rhyme and meter very good I thought.

This reads very smoothly, and follows on with the prompt poem well. I liked the details, great imagery and involvement, and an authentic mythical spirit. Best of luck in the contest!

-
Beautiful take on the prompt. Villanelle is hard and takes allot of time. You did really well. All the best in the contest!
Take care

Not bad, I must say ...
and it works as a take off on the theme given. My problem with it is the inverted lines. However, Jeff might not mind that as much as I do.
All in all, though, you've done a credible job with this since villanelles ARE not the easiest poems to write.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is delightful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another poem of fantasy this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!A villanelle of victorious virtue! A delight of dainties! or as Blaze would say " a magnificent most magical mouse!". I love the detail of the merfolk's wine steeped of kelp! Lines ten and eleven: what a beautiful smoothness you get to his gesture! I love the line "And silence chatter of the merfolk crowd". "her step is light and proud" what a wonderful phrase! I love line two. I love all the lines!
