The Ancient ones

Speak not of cowering in fear,
but smashing your enemy - but indulge not in mindless bloodshed,
fight only when no other avenue appears.

Lie never for selfish reasons,
for selfish reasons breed a weak spine - but to speak not the truth is okay,
as long as it saves a person's life,
and to a person who deserves to know it - the truth is his right.

Tread not a person around you down,
nor treat him like a syphilitic whore rotting in the mud:
Everyone deserves respect,
Except the syphilitic whore rotting in the mud:
For those who cheat, lie, steal and kill without reason are not people,
but worse than the animal, and them you shun.
To judge a person on a first glance gives him not the chance to cement a favorable impression, lest he be well known for deals in the dirt,
let him not be shunned.
Also to strangers behave well but be weary,
for are they friend or foe you do not know - and minds change in a hurry.
To love a person accept them for who they are: and try to understand them to bring them close to your heart.
Listen to your critics for they see not strengths but weaknesses - to improve yourself is essential to go beyond and far.
Knowledge of any kind should never be ignored,
lest it destroys mankind in the long run; But knowledge that is fake should be undone, and those books burned down,
for it is a disease that spreads faster than a bad rumor festering among innocent youngsters hearts.

Knowledge is power, and over yourself control,
discipline to yourself is to limit your senses:
To only have what is necessary, and nothing in excess.
Give knowledge freely not to everyone,
but to those whose hearts and minds are pure,
but to others never talk,
lest they twist your words,
to bite the hand that fed them.

Present yourself to public with self control,
but never in a way that overshines authority presently in control.
Speak less, hear more. for that is a trait of wisdom sure.
answer not to questions that lie on a knife's edge,
lest you speak more than intended, only to be known a fool or worse,
have your security compromised.
talk softly, answer directly: for these people are trusted widely.

Help those gladly whether dear or stranger,
as long as those being deal with are in honest disrepair.

And as wisdom comes from experience - experience with age,
And so the dragon unfolds it's wings,
takes to the air

  • 3 times. not sick of it. just dont want to sound like a stalker ^_^

this poem should win in the contest. if not, i'll erm.... think of something to do... yea...

  • Nicely written piece. You have done a good job with this but I have only seen one mention of dragon in there or is this suppose to be the dragon's pov. I mean don't get me wrong I love the write it was done quite well. Thank you for sharing.

    • You've got to think a little harder. This entire poem is about a dragon:

The poem is titled "The ancient Ones", as are dragons ancient, so that's there.

Then the line "And as wisdom comes from experience - experience with age" is telling you that the dragon is ancient, and therefore has wisdom under it's belt.

The dragon, because of his/her age, is representative of knowledge, and therefore, power; then, to each according to it's element, represents that element in it's most rawest and powerful form: Strength, bravery, honor, etc, etc, are all associated with the dragon, which I portrayed in here in the form of a code of honor for a warrior, also saying that the warrior is a form of the dragon, because typically, a warrior was required to be knowledgeable in more than the art of fighting; literature, poetry, politics, and others were required, as a warrior was considered a part of the ruling class.

And hence I've portrayed the dragon thoroughly according to how I see it.
