the Soul of Beauty

Missing image

So many people envy beauty great

describing many benefits they see.

When iridescent splendor seems innate,

Inferred advantage blesses those like she.

But others miss the cost that beauty bares

as superficial beauty will distract.

So often missed, her virtues and her cares,

will lend to loneliness, a sorry fact.

But here’s a secret you must come to know,

that inner beauty overcomes the view,

That time alone will fade the rosy glow

yet burnish bright the beauty that’s in you.

It’s true that time itself can bring a cure

to certain matters sadly we must face

Our time is like a river flowing sure

eroding certain things beyond a trace.

Take heart when facing any prejudice,

The soul of beauty always finds its bliss.

Please tell me what you think

Such a short time we are here to experience life,

    so temporal and superficial

but we are far more then meets the eye

and we should try to see each other as we truly are

    as the inner beauty

is the essense of who we are

so so very wonderful to read your lovely commonsense written in such a lovely manner.

    God bless you my friend...

a sad and reflective piece but also very true to point out that true beauty comes from within.A well written poem in a traditional rhyming format that had me welling up slightly. well done!!

Many write of beauty but none as elegant as this. The topic of beauty being superficial, or that of the beholder, or beneath the skin can be cliché but not here, not at all. There is wisdom and accuracy all over the place. I love this!

Yet again, such a wonderful message...
"That time alone will fade the rosy glow
yet burnish bright the beauty that’s in you"
I think Lowell Poe has made an insightful comment- We get to know poets here through the language of their soul, to know the inner beauty not readily seen in everyday life. This is a lovely piece. I always enjoy reading your work.

Yes there is an inner beauty we often fail to see. the kindest heart contains that beauty and the poets words inspire such thoughts. well done.

    how beautiful.
a very wise take on true beauty and where it comes from.
and I am leaving with a smile on my face. I love how some people
    just "get it"

Just a fantastic title to this piece....
the title alone gave pause to thought....
i have a perspective on your work........
I think this site has much to do with what you so poetically
    wrote about
    first............i love it.......
    now...
    I may be wrong lass....
we have been friends a while....
i dont think you always had your photo up....
so many here dont.......... as poets..
we speak to faceless names about what we love....
we see others beauty from their words...from their souls...
with know idea what they look like...
we share things in writting that we would normally just not blurt out in everyday conversation.....
so we see a side of people that they normally would never share ...say on the phone or a letter...
we come to see them like none of the people that these writers see in their every day lives.....
When we first spoke and i read your work...
    i said...
oh, this is a beautiful soul,
    like a rainbow.....
such blinding beauty radiates from inside of her......
it made little difference what your outer shell was...
we are not what we appear....
and we appear to be what were not......
then when i saw your image i thought....
beauty on the inside does project to the outside.

you have done it to me again lass.....
starting my mind and moving this gabby Irish mouth....
i knew i should have never kissed that Blarney stone.....
they said it would give you the gift of gab...
i just dont know if it is such a gift to others...lol

    Bless your heart,
    I love this one !
    Liam

Beautiful. We often spend our time convincing ourselves if we only had what another person head, then we would be happy. Truly it is only when we are satisfied with what we have that we can attain happiness.

    Poet

and the heart , unlike the flesh knows the true pain of loneliness and rejection. In the end however, the finger still picks the nose. Smiles . Well said poet.

    I Agree Pam

You are blessed with both beauties for sure - you have penned a "from the heart" piece here - take care - guard your inner person - be anxious for nothing - keep on keeping on - Joe - hugs

    Yes Pam

when the outer shell has retuned from whence it came
and there is seemingly nothing left to fawn upon
the beauty that you nourished in loves' name
like an iridescent fire will live on...

Such a tender and thought provoking write my dear friend
